  • Overview

    Solers provides IT infrastructure and network security support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS).  Solers’ team ensures that systems are developed, deployed, updated, and available for NESDIS to fulfill its mission to deliver critical meteorological and environmental data.  Solers’ team develops and integrates NESDIS product generation and distribution systems within its Environmental Satellite Product Distribution System (ESPDS).  Solers seeks experienced engineers who are knowledgeable of enterprise operating systems, network attached storage, enterprise applications, and programming.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree (experience may substitute for education) in Computer Science or applicable area preferred.

     

     

    Required Skills:

    • 3-7 years of experience in enterprise data centers with Linux and VMware operating systems
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to analyze risk and report problems concerning system requirements
    • Understands and is competent in the implementation, configuration, and administration of enterprise operating systems such as VMware ESXi, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and Microsoft Windows Server
    • Understands distributed application platforms and SOA (Apache ActiveMQ, WSO2 AS/ESB, Red Hat Fuse)
    • Possesses knowledge and understanding of datacenter systems, virtualization, and the underlying hardware platforms such as VMware vSphere running on Cisco Unified Computing Systems (UCS)
    • Possesses knowledge and familiarity regarding NAS appliances serving NFSv4 with Kerberos (EMC Isilon preferred)
    • Automates tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
    • Understands PKI infrastructure and the SSL handshake process
    • Performs installation of software and firmware on switches and routers
    • Coordinates to plan and execute system upgrades in an operational environment with minimal down-time
    • Possesses knowledge of emerging technologies and trends, particularly those concerning the cloud and containers
    • Understands solutions for system security and has demonstrated the ability to learn and apply emerging security solutions
    • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and resolve system problems independently or collaborating with a team
    • Possesses knowledge and familiarity regarding packet analysis, packet captures, packet headers, and the associated protocols and standards
    • Provides metrics as required
    • Must be willing to work on a team with shared and individual responsibilities including administrative and technical tasks, recommendations for hardware and software purchases, case studies, collaborative design, problem resolution, and others
    • Identifies, recommends, and implements cost-cutting solutions and efficient practices
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
