  • Overview

    Solers provides systems and software engineering support to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS) to ensure systems are developed, deployed, updated, and available - allowing NESDIS to fulfill its mission.   As part of this support to NESDIS, Solers’ team provides development of cloud-based satellite meteorological product generation and distribution systems within its Environmental Satellite Product Distribution System (ESPDS).  Solers seeks experienced cloud engineers familiar with meteorological data systems who are knowledgeable of Unix and MS Windows Operating Systems and who possess strong familiarity with Python and Java programming languages

     

    Responsibilities Include: 

    • Development and sustainment of cloud-based applications for satellite meteorological product generation and product distribution
    • Cloud-based application administration
    • Development and implementation of security controls in a cloud environment
    • Develop tools and techniques for automated system testing and system performance analysis
    • Support system deployment, integration, test, and evaluation
    • Provide occasional on-call support during non-working hours
    • Comply with configuration management and other development standard processes
    • Identify and evaluate solutions to enhance and improve efficiency, usability, performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness

    Qualifications

    Education:

    BS in Computer Science or other related Engineering Degree or a comparable amount of work experience.

     

    Required Skills:

    • 3-7 years of software development in Python
    • Bachelor’s Degree (experience may substitute for education) in Computer, Meteorological or similar physical Science preferred.
    • Experience with developing applications for use within one or more Cloud Service Providers (CSPs)
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to analyze risk and report problems concerning system requirements
    • Excellent written and verbal communication

    Desired Skills:

    • Certification from one or more cloud service providers
    • Experience with AWS-provided features (or equivalent from other CSPs) to include:
      • Cloud 9 IDE
      • EC2
      • S3
      • Elastic Beanstalk
      • ECS/EKS Managed Container Service
    • Familiarity with AWS-provided (or equivalent from other CSPs) administration and security controls, including:
      • VPC Network Configuration
      • IAM Application/User Identity Access Management
      • CloudFormation
      • CloudWatch
      • CloudTrail
      • Systems Manager
      • Config
    • Experience with Java Enterprise Edition
    • Experience with Enterprise Service Bus (e.g., WSO2 ESB, Fuse, Camel)
    • Experience with Application Server (e.g., JBoss EAP, WSO2 AS)
    • Experience with Linux and MS Windows OS
    • Experience with Perl
    • Experience with distributed computing technologies/methodologies
    • Experience with NoSQL databases.
    • Experience with NetCDF and HDF5 data types
