  • Overview

    Network Engineer

    • Understands and is competent in the implementation, administration, and planning of deployments for routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
    • Understands and is competent in the implementation, administration, and planning of deployments for network protocols including VRRP, STP, LACP, MLAG, Dot1q, and others
    • Possesses knowledge and familiarity regarding high-end network devices from a variety of manufacturers; device types should include modular-chassis switches and routers, 40 or 100 Gb/s interfaces, and redundant supervisor and route processor modules
    • Possesses knowledge and familiarity of network cabling standards including TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC, IEEE, and others
    • Possesses knowledge and familiarity of emerging network technologies and trends
    • Can assist with network designs considering existing components and all given requirements for: capacity, security, protocol support, fault-tolerance, functionality, ease of implementation, and ease of maintenance
    • Understands solutions for fault-tolerance and high-availability; can assist in the evaluation and risk/benefit analysis for various situation-types; this should include but not be limited to the following factors: physical configurations, logical configurations, stateful failover, fast failover, vendor-specific solutions, hardware dependent solutions, open standards solutions, electrical power, system performance and equivalency, Continuity Of Operations (COOP), mitigation for multiple and cascading failure scenarios; and disaster recovery
    • Understands solutions for network security and has demonstrated the ability to learn and apply emerging security solutions including: next-generation firewall configurations, planning firewall implementations and security zones, in-line packet inspection, and defense-in-depth
    • Possesses knowledge and familiarity regarding packet analysis, packet captures, packet headers, and the associated protocols and standards
    • Has a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network problems while collaborating with a team
    • Must be willing to work on a team with shared and individual responsibilities
    • Must contribute to group tasks including administrative and technical functions such as recommendations for hardware and software purchases, case studies, collaborative design and problem resolution, and others



    • Bachelors Degree (experience may substitute for education)
    • Experience performing break fix on enterprise class IP networks
    • Knowledge in the configuration, installation, operation, and maintenance for routers, switches, and firewalls
    • Strong troubleshooting skills
    • Hands-on experience with IT infrastructure, with a concentration in networking - routers, switches, circuits, etc.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to analyze risk and report problems concerning system requirements
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    Desired Skills:

    • CCNA or CCNP
