  • Overview

    Provide systems safety engineering services in support of satellite-based and ground-based navigation and landing systems for the FAA.  Analyze and study complex safety system requirements.  Perform System Safety Assessments/Analyzes.  Develop hazard analyses and maintain Hazard Tracking System (HTS) database.  Develops and maintains safety analyses including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)/Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).  Coordinate and support System Safety Program Working Group (SSWG).



    Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.  Degree emphasis in a principle or discipline related to aviation or safety is desired.


    Required Skills:

    8+ years’ experience in safety management system or aviation related field.  Knowledge of the FAA Safety Management System (SMS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM).  Skill in developing system and component level failure/hazard analyses (FTA, FMEA/FMECA) Functional Analysis and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA).  Knowledge of satellite and ground based aircraft navigation technologies.  Familiarity with terminal instrument procedures, non-precision and precision approaches, flight standards, air traffic requirements, and certification of safety-critical systems and avionics equipment.


    Desired Skills:  

    Familiarity with any or all of the following: FAA Acquisition Management System (AMS), SMS, aircraft navigation and landing systems, FAA or DoD Safety Engineering Standards (MIL-STD-882, SAE ARPs 4754/4761), reliability/failure analysis, Software Assurance guidance (RTCA/DO-178B, RTCA/DO-278), software development practices, processes, and standards (FAA-STD-026A), MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), CAFTA.
