Mid-Level Systems Engineer

Support the build-out and expansion of a data processing environment.  Specifically deploy/update/configure Linux servers, provide software installation and troubleshooting, support identity management, and perform system lockdown activities to meet customer requirements.  Support these activities on both bare metal and cloud-based resources.  Assist in the system planning and design for expansion of these resources to meet program needs.


Desired Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or System Engineering, or related field.


Required Skills:

Operating System administration skills for Red Hat 7.x to include building systems up from bare metal, performing software package installation, operating system and application troubleshooting, and implementing security hardening.    Familiarity with automated configuration management tools (e.g. Ansible and Puppet), build tools (e.g. Git, Jenkins, Artifactory), and shell scripting (e.g. bash, python, ruby).


Desired Skills:

Understanding of development methodologies, preferably Agile.  Experience with Assurance and Accreditation (e.g. Risk Management Framework, NIST 800-53).  Ability to write/edit technical documents describing system configuration and security posture.  Familiarity with the following:
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux security features (OpenSCAP, SELinux, Aide, journald, PAM, firewalld, etc.)
• AWS security features (Security Groups, CloudTrail/CloudWatch, IAM, KMS, etc.)
• Familiarity with web application security
