Overview

Solers provides IT infrastructure and network security support (overall program) to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Service (NESDIS) to ensure systems are developed, deployed, updated and online, allowing NESDIS to fulfill its mission.  Solers' team ensures the continuous delivery of a high-performance, scalable, and secure infrastructure platform, including several COTS solutions, and a Java-based Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform.  Solers installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains, and coordinates the use and proper operation of systems and environments; configures and manages all equipment and systems including hardware, software, and peripheral equipment; maintains user accounts and security policies on software and hardware-based routers and switches; coordinates with Information Security personnel to ensure systems and security plans are up to date on all system platforms; implements, documents, and coordinates policies, procedures, and standards; enforces security procedures.

 

Responsibilities:

Provide Linux/Windows/VM support to software developers and system engineers on both development and delivered production systems.  Will create/modify/disable/maintain user/group accounts, monitor systems and logs, and troubleshoot system/OS issues when necessary.  Incorporate vendor updates and install and configure Red Hat Linux, Windows 7, Windows workstations and servers.  Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, switches, services, settings directories, storage, etc.  Perform security monitoring/system scans to facilitate system hardening.  Perform performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.  Successful candidate will quickly adapt and learn new technologies.  Support the implementation of new requirements and bug fixes into COTS and other custom-developed infrastructure platforms.  Responsibilities occasionally require working evenings or weekends.

Communication skills: Applicant must be able to describe problems and their solutions to non-IT workers, both verbally and in written form.

Core Technical Skills: Applicant will oversee the connections of many different types of computer equipment and must ensure that they all work together properly.

Multitasking Skills: Applicants may have to work on many problems and tasks at the same time.

Problem-Solving skills: Administrators must be able to quickly resolve problems that arise with computer networks and systems.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors' degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field (experience may substitute for education)

 

Required Skills:

  • 3-6 years of experience
  • 3+ years of experience with several of the following is required; experience with many or all of the following (or similar solutions) is desired: McAfee ePO, EMC Isilon, EMC VNX, EMC Networker, WSO2, WSUS, Apache ActiveMQ, ForgeRock OpenAM, Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat, Active Directory, Microsoft IIS, SSL/TLS/PKI, VMWare vSphere/ESXi and vCenter, RHEL Satellite Server, SolarWinds Orion, Tripwire Log Center and Enterprise, Palo Alto Firewalls, F5 Load Balancers
  • 3+ years of experience performing deployment, testing, and troubleshooting on enterprise class systems, with a concentration in Linux/Windows OS and virtualized environments
  • Ability to utilize scripting to automate tasks (e.g., bash, PowerShell, Python)
  • Understanding of common enterprise technologies (e.g., NAS/SAN, virtualization, relational databases [Oracle, Postgres, SQL Server], server clustering, web servers, distributed applications, SOA, PKI and X.509 certificates)
  • Experience with SOAP/REST web services and SOA platforms including Application Server, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), and Java Message Service (JMS) is desired
  • Ability to read and evaluate stack traces (Java exceptions)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to develop new approaches to complex design problems
  • Ability to analyze risk and report problems concerning system requirements
  • Understanding of core Configuration Management concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
